This HTML5 site celebrates the 100th anniversary of the German chocolate-maker. With a focus on a corporate interactive wall, it marks all of the company’s important milestones through text, images and animation.
• Concepting began at the end of October 2011 and the site launched in early February 2012.
• The campaign featured a large TV and out-of-home media campaign and a mobile chocolate museum and production truck that toured Germany.
• HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3 were used for the frontend; the backend was written in PHP with some utility apps in JavaScript and some shell scripts to help with redundant tasks.
• A series of tools automatically generate HTML5 sprite animations from movies, which helped enormously in prototyping the site and a simple CMS is in place to allow for quick moderation of the content and to ease the multilingual aspect of the site.
• The biggest challenge was achieving optimal performance while moving around the site and viewing animation at the same time.
