"This painting was for an opera, Florencia en el Amazonas, by Daniel Catán. This Latin opera is set in the Amazon rainforest. The story involves a hunter who is searching for a rare Emerald Butterfly. The search for the elusive butterfly becomes symbolic of the characters’ quest for renewal and lost love. In the painting I camouflaged the butterfly in an abstracted rain forest environment. The Rorschach quality of mirroring the left side of the picture with the right alludes to the inner psychological journey undertaken by the characters in the story."
