A new addition to type foundry Commercial Type’s collection of microsites that feature its typefaces—known as the Commercial Type Showcase—Action Condensed features a densely packed, eye-popping smorgasbord of interactive widgets, designed by New York–based design studio Project Projects with coding by development consultancy GrayBits. The site’s namesake font, Action Condensed, was created by Dutch typeface designer Erik van Blokland specifically for user interfaces, so what better way to showcase its ability by implementing it in a user interface? Using a bright, saturated color palette derived from Commercial Type’s identity, the site’s complex dashboard pulls from visitors’ local data to provide content, including street-level location, weather, time and news.
