Brian Rea, art director
New York Times, client
"This was for a series of pre-2008 election essays that focused on the depressed economies of a few rural regions in the U.S. The goal was to pull little bits and pieces from the stories and create something that had a bit of an ambiguous narrative. I kept the graphics gritty, and rough, like the towns in the essays. Most of the essays originally ran in black and white. I was pleased with the finals, and decided to add color and combine some of the elements into a larger picture." Ink, photocopies, digital.
