Immediately after the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) annouced its five nominations for 2013's Best Film, illustrator Jonathan Burton had just under two weeks to create an illustration for each one. Commissioned by Studio Small, Jonathan expertly crafted narrative poster illustrations for Argo, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, and Zero Dark Thirty.

The BAFTA best film commission has always sought interesting poster artists to create images that really communicate a film’s story. It's a tricky brief with no time and lots of pressure. To date Noma Bar, Tavis Coburn, Adam Simpson, Eda Akaltun and now Jonathan Burton have been on the adventure with us. All have created innovative and insightful interpretations of the subjects—and most too have suffered from a real lack of sleep! As part of the overall brief, the illustrator also creates two works for the tickets and menus to be used on the awards presentation night. This year, Jonathan concentrated on the glamour and excitement of the red carpet. All the images are also available as prints.
