“I got a call from Condé Nast’s (now defunct) Portfolio magazine to shoot an editorial piece about Carl’s Jr. We shot in the CJ test kitchens with home economists, but no experienced food stylist. I built this burger myself in front of the camera one layer at a time, so I could see it coming together from that angle. I wanted it a little sloppy, but very stylized. We made the cover, but this shot was never used. They opted for another 12-inch stacked burger for its exaggerated appeal. People love this burger! It’s gotten me several projects and many stock sales.”
