“Focusing on digital intimacy and its gamification, the multifaceted project FIRSTDATE has been instigated in the country of Georgia, where prejudice and a lack of sexual education are prevalent. During our residency with Propaganda, a Tbilisi, Georgia–based contemporary arts organization, we successfully engaged local communities, activists and nongovernmental organizations by offering a platform for discourse about social constructs and biases that are being recoded, into our digital tools. The outcome involved a series of surreal film scenes on the impacts of technology on our desires and the novel emotional states of intimate togetherness; a multimedia installation presenting sensual sculptural assemblages; a bespoke collaboration with activist Georgian condom brand Aiisa; and, mainly, a panel of talks led by the human rights lawyer Baia Pataraia, which was streamed by online music broadcasting platform Boiler Room.”
