"Gangster was photographed for my book American Bikers, published by Schirmer Mosel in Germany. This photo became my most iconic image. Tina Brown ran this image as a double-page spread in a ten-page pictorial in the July 1995 issue of The New Yorker magazine. This was only the second time a pictorial was ever run in The New Yorker. The first was Richard Avedon's American West. This image of Gangster was also run in a ten-page pictorial essay in the German magazine Stern in 1998."
