Background: We are a full-service design studio based in New York who work with design-conscious clients on progressive solutions providing everything from brand identities to environmental design to website design. With site development by v-a, we wanted to showcase our recent work and our processes. The site was also the first part of an outreach strategy to expose a new audience to karlssonwilker’s work.
Highlights: Since the site is a foundation piece, it not only shows how well the studio works with like-minded brands, but also provides a history of the studio from its very inception.
Challenges: Making sure that it was built mobile-first, especially the kaleidoscope element that you see on the home page. Also, the site is bilingual, in both English and Mandarin.
Time constraints: The blessing and curse of designing your own studio’s site is that you set your own deadlines. There were many times that we thought we were done with the site, but a tweak here and there pushed the timeline further back. Like most designers, we re-think every piece of design for its optimal execution. While we don’t think perfection is always possible, we always strive for it in everything we put our hands on. The site was launched quite a few months after the initial deadline.
