No ping pong paddles? No problem. Vienna-based digital firm Wild created Konterball, a web experiment that shows off Google Chrome’s new WebVR capabilities. Keeping the UX design simple, Wild ensured that Konterball can be accessed on all devices—including mobile and virtual reality (VR) headsets, such as Google’s Cardboard and Daydream, the HTC Vive, and the Oculus Rift. On mobile phones, the VR feature uses the phone’s gyroscope to react to user movements. WebSocket acrobatics enable realtime communication between users. Visitors can play Konterball with each other even if they’re accessing the site on different devices. Wild used Javascript and NodeJS to build the site; the WebVR polyfill also brings the experiment to non–Google Chrome users.
This Los Angeles–based studio’s new site strikes a balance between the planned and the unpredictable.
