"The picture that never ran. From a series for Outside magazine to illustrate a boyhood memory of summers in New Hampshire in the 1940s. The owner of this lakeside property was contacted to run the story and refused to allow it to be published. The word lawsuit came up. When I arrived, I saw nothing. The site was really just a dirt pull off from the main road with two bath houses. I stood there for awhile muttering "this is it?" Then the next morning the fog drifted in and the sun cut through at times. It's often the case with an unknown place that you arrive with visions of grandeur. Then your hopes are adrift at the reality of the place."
