As part of ad agency J. Walter Thompson Canada’s campaign to promote Mazda’s MX5 RF roadster, creative and digital production studio Thinkingbox created a website that presented the vehicle with deep levels of precision and detail for visitors to explore. Translating the concept of a telescope turned earthwards—the site’s background features the David Dunlap Observatory in Toronto—Thinkingbox used high-resolution images that enable users to zoom in via hotspots and scan Mazda’s MX5 RF, showcasing the craftsmanship in the high-performance vehicle’s production details. Expanding upon this concept, a telescopic navigation system lets visitors on mobile platforms intuitively pull and pinch to zoom in and out on the car. The site utilizes thousands of photographs taken by world-renowned photographer Shin Sugino; these photographs are stitched together in the OpenSeadragon API. For the zoom function, the site leverages ReactJS.
