Charles Santore wrote and illustrated Silk Princess. "The story is taken from an ancient Chinese legend of how silk was discovered. A princess playing in the royal garden, under the watchful eye of her mother, saw a cocoon fall from a mulberry tree into her mother’s teacup. As the hot tea unraveled the thread, the princess and her mother decided to play a game to see how long the thread was. With her mother holding the cocoon the princess tied the thread around her waist and set off on an adventure that led finally to the secret of the silkworms." 22 x 11, watercolor and sepia ink.
