"Another in the Penguin Ink series. Tom Boyle likes edgy covers, so selling him on using a tattoo artist to repackage The Tortilla Curtain was probably not too much of a stretch—but I'm not sure if I was the editor of Waiting for the Barbarians I'd have had the guts to reach out to an uber serious person like John Coetzee and say 'What do you think of the idea of having your book packaged in a tattoo flash style?' But that's exactly what happened across this series, and it's quite wondrous to see even more of these giants of the literary world like Auster, Delillo, Fielding and Amis tell us to go for it."
