"The original S'pore Discovery Centre presented a platform for Singaporeans to think about the past and prepare for the future,” said New York-based Ralph Appelbaum Associates. “In 2002, it hired us to transform it into a world-class attraction. We acted as facilitators and catalysts for a client-led media package to help visitors understand the country's security (‘Total Defense’), economics and social issues in a new, interactive and entertaining way. As the project was nation-building and Singapore-centric, the client and local content developer needed to take a pro-active role. The world's first and largest team-based interactive ‘design studio,’ the ‘Visionarium,’ is the project's centerpiece. A 47-foot-high sphere features a 360º projection screen. Visitors join a ‘design session’ with up to 120 people—three teams of 40 players each—and make creative choices that transform Singapore into the city of the future. The final design is presented as a computer animation flythrough on the wraparound screen."
